 Narrative

The most significant advancements in sport science were made in the former Soviet Union and Eastern bloc Europe. The Western sport training community is far from absorbing what was done in these countries as far back as the 1960s.

The sport training process demands that the coach and trainer of athletes possess an understanding of the bioenergetics and the biodynamics of the sport form. The coach must then possess the capacity to methodically plan training to suit athletes of varying disciplines, of varying levels of preparation, and varying levels of sport qualification in their process of attaining sport mastery.

Thomas Kurz stated that 'Training is efficient if the highest sport result is achieved with the least expense of time and energy". In order to accomplish this task, coaches must expand their theoretical knowledge beyond the confining borders presented by western academia, its sport training institutions, and certification courses.

Coaches and trainers must make it their directive to instruct athletes in all realms of preparation- physical, psychological, intellectual, tactical, and technical.

In order to develop competency in this regard, western coaches must look further than their geographical borders and beyond the sea.
